Bath & Body Works had food lovers in mind with some of its recent candle releases — but opinions on the new scents were divided.
The retailer brought back its Annual Candle Day event last week, which started online on Dec. 4 and took place in stores Dec. 5-7. While the sale included plenty of popular picks like Fresh Balsam and Winter Candy Apple, a press release listing the selection of items also announced some surprising culinary-inspired candles.
“Fun and unexpected foodie fragrances like Coffee & Donuts, Chips & Salsa, Pizza & Ranch and Popcorn & Slushie make up this creative collection,” reads a description for the pairings.

The release also introduced a limited-edition Holiday Dill-ight candle.
“Inspired by the quirky holiday tradition, join the ultimate holiday hunt by snagging a limited-edition pickle candle,” reads the description.
The product pages on the store’s website offer more information about each. For example, the fragrance notes for Chips & Salsa are “bottomless tortilla chips and fresh salsa,” while the vibes are “catching up with your besties for Taco Tuesday at your favorite Mexican restaurant.”
The fragrance notes for Pizza & Ranch, which aims to help customers “feel the stress of the week melting away,” are “gooey cheese, crispy pepperonis and ranch.”
When Bath & Body Works shared an Instagram post about the sale on Saturday, Dec. 6, customers took the opportunity to share their reviews on the candles they’d tried — and some were particularly critical about the Chips & Salsa and Pizza & Ranch.

“The ranch and pizza candle almost made me throw up lol,” wrote one person, while another added, “the pickle one too and chips and salsa smell like feet🤢.”
“Now who really sat down and thought Pizza and Ranch and Chips and Salsa were candles that people would want their homes to smell like. Just 🤮,” read other comment.
Another commenter didn’t hold back, proclaiming, “Whoever made the pizza and ranch candle is going straight to HELL.”

“Among many more.. yes I did buy the pickle, chips and salsa. And yes I do like them. I love food, what can I say😁,” one fan wrote.
Bath & Body Works is no stranger to food-inspired fragrances. The brand recently collaborated with Milk Bar on a limited-edition collection of festive scents inspired by Milk Bar’s decadent desserts.
The four mouth-watering varieties that debuted in October included Cinnamon Pretzel Cookie, Raspberry Holiday Pie Bar, Peppermint Bark Truffle and Cereal Milk Soft Serve.
